In the absence of President William Beattie, the meeting was chaired by John Gillespie in the Crown Hotel last Tuesday (September 17).
Member Chris Greene introduced the speaker, Mr John Briggs from Stonehaven, who spoke about Persian rugs.
John liked to go to Iran to buy stock for his Stonehaven shop - he enjoyed the country, the culture and the people. Rugs are made by the nomadic Qashqais, villagers and city dwellers alike.
Dyes are made from egg shells, onions and pomegranate skins as well as other vegetation. After a question and answer session, the meeting closed with a vote of thanks proposed by Gordon Watson for a most informative presentation from Mr John Briggs.
