STONEHAVEN Cadets welcomed onboard TS Carron shipmate Tom Hay from the HMS Diana Association last week.

The HMS Diana Association affiliated to Stonehaven & District Sea Cadet Unit in September 2010 after a unanimous vote by the members.

Mr Hay from Turriff made a number of presentations during the evening including a HMS Diana Ship’s Crest, HMS Diana Lapel Badges to all the staff, cadets and juniors and a cheque for £200 raised from their association’s March 2011 reunion held in Blackpool.

Mr Hay joined the Royal Navy at the age of 15 on November 17, 1952. He was put through his basic training at HMS Ganges (which he assures us was a legal concentration camp where the SAS didn’t have a look in!).

Mr Hay served a further six months on the aircraft carrier HMS Indefatigable before joining HMS Diana in October 1954 as an Ordinary Seaman, then went to Gunnery school for a course, To cut a long story short, he came out of the RN in 1982 as a Chief Petty Officer and instructed for a while at the University Naval Unit.

We are extremely grateful, as their affiliated Sea Cadet Unit, for the HMS Diana Association’s continued efforts in supporting our Unit.
