Stonehaven is set to be awash with Easter bunnies and bonnets next week, to raise money for charity.

The woman behind the event, Suzanne Davies, hopes to raise money for The Brain Tumour Charity and The Friends Of The Neuro Ward.

Since she was diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour in April 2014, the 37 year-old wife and mother of two from Newtonhill has raised more than £42,000 for charity – and wants to add even more money to the pot.

Suzanne said: “I’m hoping to raise more money for The Friends Of The Neuro Ward and CLAN this year.

“Being a patient at the ward, I noticed that it could do with a bit of brightening up not only for those staying there but for families, friends and staff as well.

“Last year we organised the Easter Bunny Hunt in Dunnottar Woods, but due to the construction work it’s taking a slightly different form this year

“This time we are hosting the Easter hunt in Stonehaven where we will have different bunny pictures in shops and around the town centre for children to find.

“We will also have a host of different entertainment and stalls throughout the day.

Suzanne’s fundraising skills were put to the test shortly after she was diagnosed when she realised that brain tumours don’t receive as much funding as many other types of cancer.

She said: ‘‘I recognised very quickly that brain tumours only receive two percent of the research funding in the UK is spent on brain tumours.

“So any money that we raise will be a great help to raise awareness for brain cancer.”

Suzanne was shortlisted for an STV Hero’s award last year for her fundraising efforts and her positive outlook is an inspiration.

“When I first received my diagnosis I thought that I could either sit and cry or get up and get one with it. And with two young kids, I chose the latter. I’m positive about the future and want to do all I can to help other suffers.”

The Easter Bunny Hunt takes place on Saturday, March 26, starting and finishing at St Bridget’s Hall from 10am-noon.
