After two weeks of voting, the Mearns Leader is delighted to congratulate the winner of the 2016 Bonny Baby competition... Matthew Anderson!

Nearly 200 votes were posted and hand delivered to our office on Ann Street, Stonehaven and it was a close fought competition, with the leading baby changing several times over the fortnight.

When voting closed on Friday, June 17 at 1700, 20-month-old Matthew was the leading baby, with 13-week-old (at the time of the photo shoot) Freddie McLaren in second place.

Local photographer Les Black took snaps of 39 youngsters for the Mearns Leader Bonny Baby 2016.

The competition was for youngsters aged up to three-years-old.

The parents of the winner and runner-up will be contacted and get to choose their image for a special framed print.

A future edition of the Mearns Leader will cover the presentation to the parents and babies of their prizes.

The winning family will receive a framed 15x12 print and the runner-up won a framed 10x8 print.

Close behind Freddie were Ella, Isla Gauld and Caitlyn all in joint third position.

The photos were taken at the Stonehaven Town Hall on Sunday, May 29 between 10am and 2pm as part of the 5th Stonehaven Baby Fair.

The event hosted over 30 stalls with information on local classes, cloth nappies, babywearing, breastfeeding, and much more.

Stonehaven Baby Fair goody bags were also back and brimming with goodies, money off vouchers and local information.

This year a suggested donation of 50p was requested, or as much as could be spared, for the bags in aid of Homestart Kincardine.

Homestart Kincardine also be ran the Baby Fair raffle.

The 2015 Bonny Baby winner was Katie Hamilton with Noel Henry Poole in second place and Kieran Douglas in third.

As well as congratulating Matthew and Freddie, the Mearns Leader would like to congratulate all the babies and families who took part.

All the families should be proud in what was a competitive and closely contested Bonny Baby 2016.
