Brighter Bervie Public Art Project

Brighter Bervie are on the lookout to appoint an artist to create some inspirational work for the Royal Burgh.

The project is looking to rejuvenate public spaces and create a positive identity while celebrating the area’s diverse make up and heritage.

The brief for the project states: “The client (Brighter Bervie) will assist the artist to engage with local people, groups and organisations. Initially, this will allow the artist to draw out the current opinions and aspirations that residents and visitors have for Inverbervie.

“Throughout the creative process community engagement will continue to build interest, for delivery of the completed work and subsequent efforts to enhance the locality.

“Using information gathered from the engagement programme, the artist will develop designs and create sculpture(s), along with potential innovative signage, that focuses on improving and promoting the amenity area at Bervie seafront, which is a key public space for the community.”

Brighter Bervie has been involved in numerous community projects since being set up over a year ago, including the Bervie Gala and RNLI flag garden.

The group have also worked together with different community groups and organisations, including the local school for a poppy sowing project.

Tom Campbell, the Chairperson of Brighter Bervie, said: “There have been several shows of interest already and we look forward to running this project through to completion next year.

“The end product should be an exciting addition to the amenities in Inverbervie.”

An artists’ brief for the commission is available on both the Creative Scotland and Aberdeenshire Arts websites.
