The Burns Quoir has recently enjoyed participating in the Gourdon-based Film, Seaside Stories when they sang and acted as extras in the sequences being filmed at St Cyrus Church, on Saturday September 1.
The inside scenes involved the Quoir’s recording and singing live and miming and re-singing again and again two central hymns during the Memorial Service for the fishing crew lost at sea.
There were many takes from different angles and in different lights. The actors performed with impressive realism, enacting the grief and breakdown involved in the process of coming to terms with the loss of a brother in one case and of a sweetheart in another. A wonderful experience, affording real insight into the art of film-making! Several further sequences are to be shot in and around Gourdon, Inverbervie and the area. Gourdon is fairly buzzing over the different events.
On a more mundane level the Quoir would like to welcome new members as well as anyone interested in singing in general to two free taster Sessions at the normal Thursday evening sessions in the Function Room of the Drumlithie Hotel at 7.30 on Thursday 13 and Thursday 20 September.
Free copies of the Quoir’s own Songbook will be issued! Why not come along and join in singing some well-known folk songs and Burns songs. Please contact Celia Craig on 01569 764025 for further details.
