There was an early Christmas present for the All -weather Pitch Committee last week - word of their funding from the Scottish Government.

The Stonehaven Community All-weather Surface Facility are one of five bids who have been given funding with the SCAWSFC receiving £280,000.

The funds come from a a £1.43m boost from the Scottish Government’s Cashback for Communities to build new, full-sized 3G pitches.

It will provide money seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act for synthetic turf rugby and football pitches at five venues across Scotland.

Douglas Samways, chair of the SCAWSFC, said: The SCAWSFC is delighted at the news that our application for match funding from sportscotland has been successful.

“As chairman, I wish to thank the members of the committee for their efforts in securing this money which, along with the £320,000 from Aberdeenshire Council, means we can now press ahead and provide Stonehaven with a first class facility which can be used by a variety of sports clubs in the town.

“Our intention is that it will also be available to the community generally at certain times during the week.

“Schools and after school groups will have access to it during the day.

“The committee is looking forward to getting on with the project and hope that the facility will be ready in the autumn of next year.”
