A new campaign page has sprung up on Facebook which wants to see a cycle route between Stonehaven and the Bridge of Muchalls.
The page wants to mobilse the community to see improvements on the A90.
Jillian Evans who set up the page told the Leader: “ The route along the A90 from Stonehaven to Bridge of Muchalls is just a grass and gravel verge. It is hard work and scary - many people come off their bikes and get punctures.
Aberdeenshire Council is keen to improve cycling facilities. A feasibility study was conducted earlier this year and recommendations were made for improvement, however it suggested that demand was not high and the study was not progressed.
“However there was fresh hope recently when the availability of national funding for cycling was announced. There will be competition across Scotland for this funding, but our chances of success will be higher if we can demonstrate high demand.
“Aberdeenshire Council and NESTRANS are supportive of this proposal going forward.
“If our local community can be mobilised to express the need and demonstrate the demand, we’ll have a much stronger case.”
