Dunnottar Castle had to be closed briefly on Sunday whilst emergency services came to the aid of an injured man.
Two ambulance crews and six members of the local coastguard took more than an hour to rescue a 36-year-old man who had fallen down the stony steps of the historic fortress and badly broken his leg.
The man, who is beleived to be local, was visiting the popular tourist attraction with his wife and daughter when the accident happened.
As the castle is surrounded by sheer cliffs, it made it difficult for the emergency services to enter and attend to the man. The paramedics put a splint on the casualty’s leg and gave him painkillers before putting him on a stretcher and carrying him up the long, steep flight of steps to a waiting ambulance which took him to hospital.
