Edzell butcher Bel Forbes is celebrating after yet another award haul for her butchery stores in Edzell and Montrose.
Bel collected six 2015 Scottish Craft Butcher Awards - including five gold awards - at Scottish Meat Trade Fair held in Perth on Sunday, May 10.
Bel’s Butchers picked up gold for their Steak and Gravy Pie, Mince and Skirlie Pie, Steak Bridie, Chicken and Leek Pie and Macaroni Pie. They also received a silver award for their Beefburger.
Bel said: “We are delighted with all the awards. Its the first time our individuals pieces and pastry have received recognition for their quality. They are very good sellers so its good to receive accolades for products that we believe in.”
She continued: “We worked very hard to receive an award for our burgers. Going in to summer, we do hope it will help increase the sale and promote the brand.
“They are very good sellers, and while we recognise it as a good product, it’s an award like this that gets the word out. They are made using scotch beef so it’s a promotion for everyone in the trade, and hopefully it will have a knock on effect for scotch beef.”
Bel isn’t a stranger to award success, having picked up multiple awards in previous years, but this year was a first for Montrose. She explained: “It’s the first awards since we opened the Montrose store last year and in the past awards have given a boost to the Edzell store. Hopefully it will increase interest and footfall in both stores.”
Beaton Lindsay, President of the Scottish Craft Butchers added: “We run these evaluations to recognise the innovation and expertise that goes into the quality products that craft butchers make.
“Customers are becoming increasingly interested in sourcing the very best meat products available and our evaluation aids the customer finding all the good products out there at our specialist butchers.”
Almost 300 products from all across Scotland where they were judged by a team of experts under the supervision of Craft Butchers Chief Executive Douglas Scott.
