Lathallan School pupil Finn Marsden (16) from Auchenblae has been awarded a Nuffield Research Placements Scheme to study Astrophysics at St Andrew University for a month this summer.
The Nuffield Research Placements provide pupils and students the opportunity to study alongside professional scientists, to develop and further their knowledge in STEM subjects.
Finn’s project will be to examine the trapping of microscopic objects using opticals.
Finn said: “I’m really excited about this opportunity to work alongside phyicists in a university setting, as it will help me decide my career choice in the future”.
Headmaster Mr. Richard Toley said: “Well done to Finn on achieving this prestigious placement through the Nuffield Research Placement Scheme. We will look forward to seeing the results of his studies”.
Lathallan School are nearing completion of a new Science Centre, in the Spring of 2016. This new facility will allow specialised and modern Science teaching across all age levels at Lathallan, which will hopefully lead to more STEM students in years to come.
