Stonehaven 50 Plus, is a friendly group that walk once a fortnight to promote health and social interaction.
The group walsk on a Monday, meeting at the local Community Centre, leaving at 9.30am for travel to various destinations by community mini bus.
There is a small charge for bus, and everyone brings their own drinks and snacks.
Walks are varied and cover 5-7 miles on average and a programme of walks developed six monthly in advance. Future walks will include; Johnshaven, Muchalls and Cran Hill and Glen Esk.
The group has had a busy and varied programme of walks over the summer, well supported by our skilled drivers and enthusiastic walk leaders.
Members enjoyed a trip at the end of May to Aboyne where they walked past the ‘Coo Cathedral’ and returned by Aboyne Loch with its swan family and young cygnets. The Summer Challenge on a lovely sunny June day, was uphill from Raemoir onto the Hill of Fare, well worth the effort for great views across Deeside and Bennachie.
The next destination was the ever popular Loch Kinord with water lilies in full bloom. An enjoyable annual bus outing with several ‘retired group walkers’ took the road to Broughty Ferry in July, ending the month with a circular walk round Scolty Hill.
August found the group at the very successful and enjoyable 50+ Aboyne Rendezvous. Glen Clova on a bright but very windy day was a grand walk. Members were nearly blown of their feet as they emerged at the edge of the magnificent Corrie Fee.
In Forfar, for their next trip they strode out around the Loch enjoying its fantastic flights of swans. Then it was up Balmashanner Hill with its magnificent views of the mist covered Grampian Mountains.
September saw the group back in Deeside for a fine walk from Kincardine 'O'Neil around Dess woodland, a bonus spotting the Chainsaw carver, producing a large bear from a big log. Two weeks later found them enjoying the wonderful scenery along the Arbroath to Auchmithie coastal paths.
The group ended the summer programme with an interesting walk on the Kincorth and Tullos Hill circuit, an easy walk just on the edge of Aberdeen City.
