Stonehaven last week played host, for a couple of days anyway, to a full ‘Hollywood’ film crew who were shooting underwater scenes in the bay.

Pinewood Studios who have been behind some of the biggest films including the Pirates of the Carribbean films and Skyfall were in Stonehaven this past week shooting a new film.

The film entitled ‘Pressure’ also made use of the Hyperbaric unit at Aberdeen and tells the story of a group of divers who are trapped underwater when their support ship sinks.

Directed by Ron Scalpello, the film features actors Matthew Goode, Joe Cole and Danny Huston, son of acclaimed screen writer and director John Huston.

Also in the cast was Aberdeen born actor Ian Pirie who has appeared in a number of high profile films over the years including the Dark Knight and Gangs of New York.

The film crew, which at times numbered up to 50, were at the harbour from Tuesday afternoon till Saturday and made use of facilities including the old MRI building and the Yacht Club, as well as borrowing tables from the Sea Cadets.

A number of local businesses benefited from the visit including Ruari McLachlan of McLachlan Marine Services who supplied boats, Rod McDonald and Paul Hynes of HMS Services and Hynes Marine who provided diving support, and the Cool Gourmet who fed the entire crew for the full 5 days. Pressure is currently scheduled to be releases next year.
