Members are reminded that the AGM of the Bowling Club will takesplace this Sunday, March 1, in the Community Clubroom at Wairds Park at 2pm. By that time they will know how close they are to winning the Mearns Indoor League for the first time.
At the time of writing, they were top dogs with 14 points along with Stonehaven BC 1, St Cyrus and Stonehaven BC 2 but with a much superior shots differential. On Tuesday night the club’s rink was due to play Stonehaven BC 1 and then end their 2014/15 campaign a fortnight later against St Cyrus BC, two tough encounters.
Whatever the outcomes, the club can finish no worse than fourth which would be their best ever season in the League.
Despite the bitterly cold days of late, spring must be in the air, at least as far as the Horticultural Society is concerned.
On Saturday morning they held their annual seed sale in the village hall.
Sutton’s catalogues were available for those who called in to place their orders and look forward to getting into their gardens again soon. Free tea, coffee and biscuits were available to enjoy over a blether making for a very pleasant occasion.
Next on the Society’s calendar is the ever popular and worthwhile Plant Sale in the Village Hall on Saturday, May 16 for which, come that time, donations of plants will be needed..
Saturday Night At The Movies
It was movie time again in the village hall on Saturday night when the showing was “The Attack of the Gerbals”.
Shot largely along Johnshaven’s Shorehead in 2011, it told an entertaining story of how a consignment of tea from the days of Nazi Germany landed on the foreshore, so tasty that its sales transformed the fortunes of the local Post Office which was under threat from a property developer.
Unfortunately it was highly toxic and all who drank it turned into zombies, finally to be wiped out in a gory finale on the harbour wall.
The director of the film and some of the characters were present to take part in an informative question and answer session and, eschewing the usual rows of seats for a cabaret style layout to enable the patrons to enjoy a glass of wine, the Village Hall committee had created a pleasant atmosphere for an intriguing “Saturday Night At The Movies”.
Mearns Coastal Parish Church
The World Day of Prayer service will take place in Bervie Church on Friday, March 6, at 7.30 pm and will be followed by tea and biscuits in the church centre. A warm welcome will be extended to all who go along.
