Land train plans ‘not forgotten’

Plans to find a way to introduce a land train to Stonehaven are “in hand”, according to Kincardine and Mearns Area Manager Willie Munro.

Stonehaven Town Partnership (STP) chairman Douglas Samways addressed the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee on Tuesday to ask for an update on the situation after plans stalled last summer.

The STP announced plans in summer of last year to install a land train in the town which would transport tourists from Dunnottar Castle down the Bervie Braes and into the town, but the scheme hit a stumbling block when it was discovered that the train would exceed the three tonne weight limit imposed on the Bervie Braes.

Mr Samways told the meeting on Tuesday that since then they have heard nothing from the local authority, and asked if there had been any progress towards finding a solution to the problem.

Mr Munro made assurances that the land train plan had not been forgotten. He said: “we have been exploring options, and the next step is to arrange a meeting with the STP. Hopefully we can move things forward, but it has been hard to do.”
