Laurencekirk Business Club announced this week that their planned Bonfire Night firework display has been cancelled due to the ‘challenging econmic situation’.
The announcement was made on Monday via the group’s Facebook page much to the disappointment of commentors.
The Business Club posted on their Facebook Page on Monday: “It is with regret that Laurencekirk Business Club have to announce that they will no be able to run the Laurencekirk Fireworks display this year. The decision was taken this morning and is in part due to the challenging economic situation in the local area and North East, but that is among other factors. We hope to meet in January 2016 and set plans in place for a great event in November 2016. Apologies to everyone who has supported us in the past.”
It hasn’t been an easy ride for the Laurencekirk Firework display that was reprised by the business club back in 2013 after an absence of 18 years. Last year’s firework display managed to attract around 1500 people into Laurencekirk with the business club thankful for the support over the years.
One comment on the post highlights their sadness at the news. It said: “A real shame, as it has been such a success in the past, but it is a huge commitment both in volunteering and financially so very understandable. Fingers crossed things pick up soon.”
