The first ever Laurencekirk Beer Festival is set to take place later this month, and organisers are hoping it will be the first of many.

Brothers Gary and Dave Metcalfe are behind the event, which will be held over three days from Thursday October 22 to Saturday October 24 in the St Laurence Hall.

Money raised will go towards two community groups - Mearns Allsorts, who support children with additional needs and their families, and the Thursday Group, who are a support group for people with MS and other disabilities.

Gary said: “Yes, this is the first time for this Beer Festival, but we hope it’s not the last! We’d love it to grow to become a regular Annual event.

“There will be over 30 Craft Beers from eight or nine Scottish Micro breweries (including a few of our own from Burnside Brewery!)

“One of the groups we’re supporting is The Thursday Group in Banchory. My wife attends that group each week on Thursday mornings, I see for myself the benefits to everyone who attend, but their funds are very tight and they need a boost!

“We were introduced to Mearns Allsorts during the summer when their Chairperson (Amy Barclay from Laurencekirk) visited us at the Brewery and outlined the fantastic work they’re doing locally. We asked them if they would like to be “linked” to this first Laurencekirk Beer Fest - they offered volunteers to help and we committed to supporting them with 50% of the profits!”

The festival will run from 5-11.30pm on Thursday and Friday, and 1.30-11.30 on Saturday. There will be over 30 craft beers, plus craft gin and limited wines. Local food will be available until 9.30pm, and there will be live music on Friday and Saturday.

A souvenir pint glass will be included in the ticket price, and tickets are available from Burnside Brewery in Laurencekirk (phone (01561) 377316).
