Life begins at 40 for Business Association

The Stonehaven Business Association is set to celebrate its 40th anniversary next week.

Formed in 1973, the association will celebrate on Tuesday, March 12, with an AGM and a social evening.

The current chairperson of the Business Association, George McGillivary, who has held the post for five years, will be stepping down.

Prior to being chairman of the SBA, he was chair of the Tourism Group for four years.

There will be a number of guests attending the evening to help the Business Association celebrate.

Chairperson from Inverurie Business Association, Jackie Allen, has agreed to speak along with Kincardine and Mearns area manager Willie Munroe.

Local businessmen Charlie McHardy and Donald Mitchell, who both had businesses in Stonehaven for over 40 years, will also attend. Mr Mitchell is also a past Chair of the SBA.

Local entertainer Peter Stewart will close the night as he performs ‘‘Rat Pack’’ songs.

All are invited to attend the evening which is due to finish at 10pm.

Members are also invited to attend the AGM and nominations for committee members and chair should be sent to the SBA secretary, Niall Menzies.

Membership of Stonehaven Business Association currently stands at around 110, with people representing all sectors of business in Stonehaven and environs, including retail, industrial, tourism, commercial and more.

Following a survey of Stonehaven businesses in 2004 , the opinions obtained have resulted in the Association being involved in many groups who are working in the town including The Horizon Project, Stonehaven Farmers and Produce Market, Stonehaven Tourism Group

and Stonehaven Town Partnership.
