Local youngsters attend international conference in Kent

Two members of Mearns Youth Forum have returned from an international academic conference on social action research.

Jodie Garrow and Fraser Thomson gave a presentation to academics from around the world at the Towards Creative Action conference in Kent last month.

Jodie, 18, is in her first year studying Social Science at Robert Gordon University while 19-year-old Fraser is studying 3D Animation at Aberdeen College.

The pair made a multi-media presentation on their experiences of leading a youth consultation. They were supported by Community, Learning and Development (CLD) Worker Kirsty Forrester.

Jodie and Fraser received bursaries to help them attend the conference, and also received financial support from Laurencekirk Rotary Club, the Kincardine & Mearns Community Planning Group and the North Alliance CLD partnership.

They will repeat their presentation, and take part in a web chat, as part of the North Alliance’s online course in community empowerment, on December 10, 2012.
