Mackie earn second place at Rock comp

Stonehaven’s Mackie Academy was awarded second place overall on day one of the 2015 Be Your Best Dundee Rock Challenge after travelling to the city to take part.

Mackie’s piece retold the classic story of Mary Poppins while exploring the issue of child neglect.

his energetic piece showcased strong performance skills and choreography and colourful costumes and make-up while also having a dark twist which captivated the audience. Thrilling throughout, Mackie’s performance was high energy and extremely entertaining.

Mackie were beaten to the winning spot by Arboroath Academy, but were recognised in several categories, including Stage Crew, Entertainment, Visual Enhancement, Costuming Character, among Set Design and Function others.

The event, held at The Caird Hall, attracted an audience of over large and was supported by Angus Council, Perth and Kinross Council and Police Scotland.

Police Scotland Chief Inspector Gordon Milne attended the event and commented: “This is probably my sixth Rock Challenge and it just gets better and better and better.

‘‘Every year we come along the choreography gets better, the music is louder, the lights are brighter and the faces light up, it’s just excellent! I really support this and think it’s brilliant! I’d like to see every child going through Rock Challenge.”
