Mearns Community Council has been handed more than £4000 in funding as a result of Scottish Water’s use of green energy.
The community council is to receive the payment as a share of the revenues raised from a recently installed wind turbine at Laurencekirk Waster Water Treatment Works. The 80kW turbine has the potential to offset around 60% of the treatment works electricity consumption per annum. The £4206 is a front ended payment for the community, the sum they would be expected to earn from the turbine at the plant over the next 20 years.
Community councillor Susie Brown said: “Mearns Community Council are absolutely delighted to receive this money and that Scottish Water have put faith in us to distribute the funds wisely. We will now take time to consider how best to spend the funds.
