A fourth-year Mearns Academy pupil is one step closer to realising her dream of being a singer as she has progressed through to the regional finals of singing competition TeenStar UK.

Laurencekirk resident, Elise Nelson, auditioned for the competition which sees winners being given a cash prize to help them kick-start their careers- in Glasgow at the beginning of February.

The 15-year-old, who has auditioned fro the competition previously, impressed judges with her rendition of the Pink hit, Perfect, and was accepted to go through to the regional finals which take place in April.

Elise explained that she was a little nervous before the audition but finding out she got through was incredible.

She said: “Before the audition I was a little bit nervous.

‘‘I have auditioned before and I always get nervous but I was also excited.

“I was really, really happy when I found out I got through.

‘‘When you find out that you are through it is such a relief.”

For the next stage of the competition, in which Elise is in the mid-teen category, she will perform a song in front of an audience in Glasgow City Hall on April 6.

If she gets through the regional she will then go to the live finals in the 02 academy in London.

Elise explained that she was feeling confident for the next round as she was at the top of her age group.

She said: “Last time I did it I was worried, but this time I started planning much earlier so I am more optimistic this time.’’

Elise is a keen singer and can be found performing in the local area.

On Valentine’s Day she performed at The Arch Cafe in Fettercairn, and readers will be able to find some of her performances on YouTube.

Elise has tickets for the Regional finals in Glasgow on April 6 and is hoping that she will have a large support with her on the day.
