A large conference on the Scottish Government’s Community Empowerment Act is to be held on Thursday October 1 in Inverurie.
The conference which has been organised by Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action and The Garioch Partnership is targeted at voluntary/community groups and statutory agencies in the Aberdeenshire area.
The keynote speech will be delivered by Marco Biagi, Scottish Government Minister for Local Government and Community Empowerment and this will be followed by a range of workshops focussing on key aspects of the Act. The conference will finish the day with a question & answer session Chaired by Jim Savege, Chief Executive, Aberdeenshire Council and will have representatives on the panel from the voluntary sector, health, and the Scottish Government. The Act is designed to give more power to local communities, supporting community bodies through the ownership of land and buildings and strengthening their voices in the decisions that matter to them. It contains a number of reforms to the system of community planning strengthening the role of communities.
