A lucky mystery man, known only as ‘‘Mr M from Aberdeenshire,’’ has banked £1 million without touching a lottery ticket.

He was the guaranteed UK winner in the EuroMillions draw on Friday, March 21.

‘‘Mr M,’’ who was playing EuroMillions through national-lottery.co.uk, has become one of more than six million players who win each week on The National Lottery’s range of games.

‘‘Mr M’’ would have received an e-mail notifying him of his win since he was playing interactively.

A survey of lottery winners found that, surprisingly, many shun champagne and turn to tea to celebrate. However, most soon adapt to their new found wealth with 82% of big winners splurging on a new home, many with luxurious features such as walk–in wardrobes, pool tables and hot tubs. Winners have also been keen to reduce household chores with many employing cleaners and gardeners.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “Huge congratulations to ‘Mr M’ for winning this fantastic prize without even touching a ticket. With many people leading busy lives playing online is becoming increasingly popular.

‘‘Through a few simple clicks players can make sure that they don’t miss out.”

Interactive winners have the opportunity to release their name, remain anonymous or, like this winner, release some details through partial publicity.
