There were big smiles from the seven pupils from Carronhill School who were present to welcome Stonehaven Rotary Club members on the occasion of their donation of £4,000 towards the cost of running the brand new school minibus.
Golf Convenor Dennis Daun, supported by Donald Mitchell and Ivan Groundwater (pictured), organised a very successful Charity Golf Event at Stonehaven Golf Club in June to raise such a magnificent total.
The cheque was presented to Head Teacher Lesley Hawksfield by Rotary Club Past President Jennifer Macdonald, supported by the club members who were instrumental in raising the money.
Lesley thanked the club for the magnificent donation and explained that the money would go towards training younger staff members to drive the bus. This costs up to £800 per person, and in addition the bus has to have an MOT at the end of the first year. Lesley said: “The new bus will make such a difference to both staff and pupils in allowing the school to access more of the community than they have been able to do in the past.”
One of the new initiatives for Rotary in Scotland is “We’re for communities” and Stonehaven Rotary is demonstrating their support for the local community with projects such as this.
