Portlethen and District Voluntary Community Ambulance Association is pleased to announce the arrival of its new minibus.

The group are also on the lookout for volunteers who might be able to drive the bus.

Noreen Harding, Chairperson said “We are very grateful for the financial support which has allowed to purchase this replacement minibus.

“We are also well supported with donations from local groups and individuals who help us maintain our service.”

Mrs Harding of St Ternans Road, Newtonhill added that it is harder to get volunteers

She said: “despite this support, our service will be under threat if we are not able to recruit more volunteer drivers. It is getting harder to attract volunteers as the retirement age increases”

This north east voluntary charity has been taking local people to Portlethen Medical Centre for nearly 30 years.

This free service is available for anyone in need of transport to attend their appointments . It serves the area of Portlethen, Newtonhill, Muchalls and Cammachmore as well as residents in the wider rural area. Anyone requiring help should ask at the Medical Centre.

The minibus regularly transports members of Portlethen’s Young at Heart Group, and Newtonhill Lunch Club, as well as being used for outings throughout the year. The group also delivers prescriptions for those who have difficulty collecting them.

Mrs Harding added that she would be pleased to hear from anyone who would like to volunteer to drive the minibus.

She said: “We have a hard core of volunteers who drive on a regular basis but we need more drivers to back them up. The volunteering would suit off shore workers, shift workers and anyone who had half a day to spare from time to time. Please contact us if you can help.”

Chairperson Mrs Harding can be contacted on 01569 730420 and Secretary Jess Horne on 01224 782757. The group would like to say a big thank you to the following companies and organisations: Apache North Sea, Charles Michie the Chemist, Maersk Oil, McIntosh Donald, Newtonhill Common Good Fund, NCMCC, NKRCC and PDCC including the Cloch Account.
