THE annual New Year’s Day Dip which takes place in Stonehaven Harbour was formally launched last week as a plea was put out for volunteers to come forward and take to the Sea on January 1 2013 to raise money for Children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

The annual Dip wi’ a Nip is in its 5th year and takes place from 12 noon on New Year’s Day (registration from 10:30 in the Granary) and all participants will be given a free CLIC Sargent T-shirt and a ‘nip’ of whisky to warm them up after their dip.

Fancy dress is optional. Participants are asked to raise a minimum of £100 sponsorship, but best efforts are always appreciated.

Katie Grier, Fundraising Manager at CLIC Sargent said: “I’m sure there are lots of locals who will join in the fun and help us raise much-needed funds to make a difference to the lives of children and young people with cancer. Whether you’ll be braving the dip yourself, or coming to support a ‘dip and nipper’ we would love to see you there as the dip promises to be bigger and better than last year!”

The Community has really come together to support this event over the years, once again Dunnottar Wines and Spirits in Stonehaven has provided a bottle of Whisky so that Dippers can have a Nip to warm up and soup on the day will be provided by Michelle Ward and the Royal Hotel, The Lions Club will be there too with a burger stall. Jane’s design are once again allowing dippers to use their premises to dry off and Woodview embroidery will be personalising the t-shirts.

CLIC Sargent provides clinical, practical and emotional support for children and young people with cancer, and their families, from the point of diagnosis.
