News from Stonehaven Branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland

We welcome Mr George Craig who has agreed and been voted in as our new president for the Stonehaven Branch.

Mr Craig is a retired electronics engineer. He is the deputy launching authority for the new shore crew of the Stonehaven Lifeboat service and has been our parade commander for the Armistice parade for the last 26 years.

He is married to Elizabeth, a former nurse at Woodcot Hospital.

We send our good wishes and thank him for the continuing work he is doing.

Dates for the diary:

July 11 - The Folk Club will be playing at the Legion and over that weekend

July 19 - Dancing to Moonshine in the upstairs hall from 8.30pm.

Aug 2 - Monthly coffee morning. Music from Tom Clarke in the upstairs lounge from 8.30pm.

August 3 - a very important date. There will be a commemorative service for all those who died in the First World War.

This will be held in the square in Stonehaven. It will start at 3pm and we hope that the population of the town and the general public will join us on this solemn occasion. Newtonhill Pipe Band are to provide the music.

Women’s section:

On May 29 the women’s section closed for the summer with entertainment by the members for the committee with a walk down memory lane with songs and activities from 1914 to 1960.
