P6 and P7 pupils at Newtonhill School held a fundraising event in June to raise funds in memory of their classmate, Bobby Douglas, who tragically died following a road accident in November 2014.
His classmates worked with staff to decide on a fitting tribute to celebrate his life and as Bobby was a fan of wearing colourful ‘snap-back’ caps, pupils and staff were invited to wear a colourful hat to school for a day.
The proceeds went towards purchasing The Bobby Douglas Sports Award which will be presented to one pupil every year for significant progress in a sport.
This year the award was presented to Evan Innes, P4, for continuing to persevere and enjoy sport despite having had an operation earlier in the school session.
Bobby’s classmates decided this would be a particularly fitting tribute as he was a dedicated participant of Muay Thai, a form of martial arts which he won several awards for.
A lasting memorial for Bobby was also created in the school playground this term which P7 pupils helped to make.
