Final preparations are under way for the 2013 Stonehaven Half Marathon and race organisers are anticipating strong local support.
Firmly established as a major event in the town’s sporting calendar, this year’s run will take place at 11.15am on July 7, starting and finishing in Minerallwell Park.
The 13.1-mile road route is unchanged, taking runners through the town northwards into Swanley, back along the Slug Road by Miekle Carewe wind farm and, finally, a welcome downhill into the town to the finish in the park.
Once again there will be a 1k fun run around the park for youngsters and organisers are delighted that Specsavers have continued to sponsor it.
Entrants will receive a goody bag, an active warm up from Jazzercise and electronic timing for that all-important accurate finish time.
Finishers will receive a medal, a spread of food and juice from Stonehaven Running Cub’s volunteers, delicious cakes by Itsy and a complementary swim on the day, courtesy of the Stonehaven Open Air Pool. 1K finishers will also receive a medal and shirt from the sponsor.
John Ritchie, member of this year’s organising committee, said “Whether you are a regular runner, a novice or simply looking for a health challenge ahead of the summer vacation then Stonehaven’s Half Marathon presents a challenge that is within your reach. We are delighted to have over 220 entrants signed up already but there are still spaces left so if you are interested to take up for the challenge visit our website. Entries may also be taken on the day if spaces remain.
If you are local and do not want to run but would like to help out with the event as a marshall then please contact the committee at email@example.com.
The Half Marathon is a not-for-profit event and organisers have sought to keep entry costs down to encourage wide participation.
Entry fee is £16 (£14 if affiliated to the Scottish Athletic Federation). More information can be found at stonehavenhalfmarathon.co.uk and entries can be made at entrycentral.co.uk.
