Aberdeenshire Council staff responsible for the harbour were present at the recent meeting of Benholm and Johnshaven Community Council and suggested a number of improvements which could be made to that area of the village.
Members were glad to hear that the August Fish Festival had passed off largely without incident, although three individuals had been spoken to in relation to minor offences, and that Grampian Police had commended the organisers for their efforts in ensuring the smooth running of the event.
Earlier, in welcoming seven community councillors and all four Aberdeenshire Councillors from the Mearns Ward to the meeting in the Village Hall, Chair, Don Marr, noted the sad passing the previous week of Mrs Maisie Murray, a past Chair of the Community Council and said that he had sent a card of sympathy on their behalf. He also welcomed Mr Chris Greene, another past Chair, who had indicated his willingness to serve again.
Later members agreed to approach other organisations with which Mrs Murray had been associated, suggesting co-operation in creating some form of memorial.
The next and last prize bingo session for the season will be held in the Community Clubroom at Wairds Park tomorrow (Saturday), not Saturday 29th as previously intimated.
