Set out as part of the planning conditions, the restored bridge provides a crossing over the tributary of the River Carron, reconnecting a historic pathway which was destroyed by flooding several years ago.

A temporary hardstanding path is currently in place to allow for pedestrian access and the reinstated route connects Dunnottar Park through to the town centre passing Dunnottar Church. There are also plans to create a permanent path leading from the bridge into the Stewart Milne Homes development.

Neil Thomson, Deputy Managing Director, said: “As a local to Stonehaven myself, I can vouch that it is a wonderful community to be a part of, and throughout lockdown many of us have enjoyed walking around our local neighbourhoods. We are thrilled to be able to provide locals with this reinstated footbridge.”
