Places still available for mixed open in Stonehaven

Due to a mixture of fog and rain the third round of the Handicap Trophy was cancelled and it was decided to shorten the competition to three rounds with the final round being played last Friday night. After two rounds Ross McAllan held a one stroke lead from David Henderson and Jacek Nowak but due to the cold and windy conditions each of them faded to allow young Fraser Stark to come storming through with an excellent nett 62 to pip Ross McAllan and Ross Porter by one stroke. Jacek Nowak was a further two strokes behind in fourth place.

On Saturday the rain and strong winds continued for the monthly Innes Medal. Despite this there were a number of excellent scores. In division 1 Ross McAllan was able to put his poor Friday night score out of his mind to jointly top his section with Joe Meanen with a nett 62. Neil Robertson was third with a nett 63. In division 2 Chaz Simpson took the honours with a nett 65 to pip Jonathan Thurlow by one stroke. Richard Tindall and Jim Hepburn were third with nett 68’s. Simon Lloyd was the clear winner in division 3 with a best of the day nett 60. This meant he got his handicap chopped by 3 strokes. In a distant second place was Malcolm Ritchie with a nett 67. Standard scratch for the day was 67. Ross McAllan had the best scratch score with a 67 despite finishing with a couple of bogies.

In conjunction with the Innes Medal it was also the final qualifying round for the D F Leslie scratch matchplay competition. Ross McAllan lead the qualifiers with a score of 136. In 16th and final spot was Alan Officer with a combined score of 150. The draw for this competition will be up on the noticeboard shortly.

The men played their first match in the Aberdeen Pennant League away to Northern Golf Club at the Kings Links Golf Course. Under the new leadership of team captain Steve Guzik they got off to a flying start with an excellent 4 - 1 win. Their next match is away to Banchory on Tuesday - results will be reported next week.

The men also played their fourth Deeside League match. This time it was away to a strong Aboyne team. Despite winning 2 of the first 3 matches Stonehaven faded and lost the final 3 to lose 4 - 2 overall.
