Stonehaven Town Partnership are to hold an open event at the end of August to present and discuss possibilities for the town.

In response to Aberdeenshire Council’s decision to re-examine its decision to back an edge-of-town bid for retail and commercial development in Stonehaven, and undertake further consultation on the matter, trustees at Stonehaven Town Partnership have announced their intention to host an open event to present and discuss what they have called their ‘Plan B’.

The event, to be held at the Stonehaven Town Hall on Wednesday August 27, is open to all residents of Stonehaven, and will comprise an open-door exhibition of ideas (4-6.30pm), followed by speakers (7-9pm) – both from the Council and from other towns that have faced regeneration issues.

Douglas Samways, Chairman of STP, said: “Through the ‘Plan B’ event, we hope to identify ways in which Stonehaven can get what it needs, but also remain a thriving, vibrant community in which people want to live, visit, work, do business and spend their leisure time.

“We have invited Aberdeenshire Council to attend and participate, so that they are able to use the information as part of its extended consultation on retail provision and development in the town.”

STP has previously stated an intention to identify a development solution that delivers improved retail, commercial space, enhanced amenity and leisure facilities and residential space, all within an attractive setting – it is this solution that the group has tagged its ‘Plan B’.

Earlier this year, the Stonehaven Town Partnership commissioned an independent report which identified potential sites in and around the town suitable for retail development. Following this, STP embarked upon examining more deeply some of the alternatives, and the outcome, ‘Plan B’ will be on display at the event.
