Local businessman John Medlock will be speaking at the launch of the Mearns group campaigning for Scotland to remain within the United Kingdom.

Mr Medlock is joint owner of the Oatmeal of Alford brand and of Mearns Transport.

At the event, which is being held this Saturday, May 10, at 10.30am at the Dickson Hall in Laurencekirk, local campaigners will set out the positive case for a No vote in the referendum in September.

There will be a panel of Alex Johnstone MSP, Alison McInnes MSP and Councillor Alison Evison to answer any questions from the audience.

The meeting will be an opportunity for Mearns residents to find out how they can get involved in the campaign for a strong Scotland within the UK.

They will be able to ask questions about how breaking away from the UK would affect them and their families.

Councillor Peter Bellarby, Local Leader of Better Together Kincardine and Mearns, said: “We’re really looking forward to the official launch of the Mearns branch of the Better Together campaign.

‘‘We know there is strong local support for a No vote in September and, even prior to the official launch, we have had a really good response in the area.”

“However, we are not being complacent. We need everyone in the Mearns who wants Scotland to stay within the United Kingdom to get involved with the campaign. Attending this event is a great way to do that.”
