Portlethen Men’s Shed was awarded £8000 by the Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee this week as it announced that it will be open to accepting male and female members.
The money will go towards the £29,361 cost of joinery, electrical, plumbing and heating work, as well as painting and decorating, and alarm system and a fire barrier system. The group had previously been given permission to transform the old public toilet building in Portlethen into a hub for the group.
Three members of the Men’s Shed (including one woman) addressed members of the Area Committee. Councillors were told that there are 200 people interested in joining the Men’s Shed once it is up and running, and that women would be made most welcome as well as men.
