Maryculter WRI

Fourteen members of Maryculter WRI met at Clan House, Westburn Road in Aberdeen on the evening of Wednesday, August 14 Joan Cowie from Clan House told of its history which began in Aberdeen 30 years ago.

Clan moved to their new premises in Westburn Road in November 2011, having raised the money to build the purpose-built premises. Clan House is a lovely haven for cancer patients and their families to use. Members were shown round the building by Joan and her colleague. There are beautifully decorated bedrooms which provide accommodation for those attending hospital who live out of Aberdeen, a lounge, kitchen with dining area, and there are also relaxing therapy rooms. After tea and biscuits, President Audrey Lowson proposed the vote of thanks to Joan for her very kind and warm welcome, making our visit so enjoyable. Audrey also congratulated the members who successfully participated in Banchory Show in July.

Catterline WRI

Catterline WRI ladies travelled to Aberdeen for their August outing to visit Cruickshank Botanic Gardens.

President Aileen Gauld welcomed members and briefly dealt with business in hand. The ladies were then introduced to the curator of the gardens Mr Mark Paterson, who gave an interesting and enthusiastic tour of part of the gardens.

Mr Paterson then judged the monthly competition; a 6” x 4” photograph of flowers: 1. Isobel Collie, 2. Aileen Gauld, 3. Liz Gibson, 4. Betty Abernethy.

A very enjoyable evening was had by all. Aileen Gauld gave the vote of thanks and wished everyone a safe journey home.
