Pupils from Lairhillock Primary School packed their suitcases last week and headed to school.

But this was not for a school trip, and their cases were not packed with clothes.

Instead, they were filled with unwanted toys and books which they took to a suitcase sale at the school.

Organised by the Rights Respecting Group at Lairhillock, the pupils set out their stalls to sell all the contents of the suitcases and to raise money for charity.

They raised £270 at the sale which they have donated to the Stonehaven Flood Relief Fund.

Receiving the donation, Douglas Knox a past president of the Stonehaven Rotary Club which is administering the fund, said: “This will add to the many donations which the fund has received already.

‘I want to congratulate all the pupils at Lairhillock for their efforts and thoughts for those suffering as a result of the terrible destruction the storms brought at Christmas.”

The flood relief fund has been set up to support those affected by recent flooding in Stonehaven and more than £14,000 has already been donated.
