Stonehaven & District Horticultural Society are gearing up to launch their annual summer gardening competition, in conjunction with the Mearns Leader.
This year’s competition has been revised with a view to encouraging wider participation within the local area.
The competition, which is open to all, provides an opportunity for everyone to get involved in doing their little bit to brighten up their area and the overall appearance of the town and surrounding district.
John Shinnie, chairman of the Society, is keen to encourage everyone to take part, explaining that the competition had been tailored to allow experienced and inexperienced gardeners to get involved.
Entrants can either enter their own garden/ display or nominate a neighbour or friend’s garden/display.
There are four categories: large garden, small garden, container/basket display and, not forgetting the younger gardeners, ‘Grow the Tallest Sunflower’ for the four to 11-year-olds.
Now is the time to start planning and planting your garden or container/basket display for the competition which will be judged by an independent judge in mid-August.
Get the children and grandchildren involved in the fun growing the tallest sunflower. There are various trophies and prizes to be won.
Look out for your competition entry form in next week’s edition of the Mearns Leader.
