A Stonehaven girl is to join Guides and Scouts from around the world at the 23rd World Jamboree in Japan in 2015.
Meg Parkhill, from the 3rd Stonehaven Guide Unit, will join nine other Guides from Scotland at the Jamboree from July 28 until August 8 next year.
All the Scottish participants will arrive early and spend several days staying with Japanese families.
Theme of the Jamboree is WA: a spirit of unity. The programme includes a wide variety of modules including a world peace programme.
Meg has already attended her first residential training camp and started preparations for their trip. There will be four training camps in total.
Meg’s mum said: “This will give Meg a wonderful opportunity to learn about many different cultures and tell others about Scotland and Aberdeenshire in particular.”
The total fee is £2995, of which the girls each have to raise £2096.50. Meg has already begun raising money through giving her friends Smarties tubes to fill with loose change and is hoping to arrange a quiz night and Body Shop party. Her mum is setting up a “just giving” account which allows people to give online.
For more information go to http://www.justgiving.com and search for Margaret Parkhill.
There are only two other girls going from Aberdeenshire and none from the city, so the girls are hoping to obtain sponsorship from across Aberdeen.
This is a great opportunity for girls to have a once in a lifetime opportunity through Girl Guiding and any support in helping to raise her funds is most gratefully received.
