The new session of the Stonehaven Ladies Probus began at the Station Hotel on Tuesday September 2.
President, Francis Gilroy, warmly welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced guest speaker David MacDonald.
David, a retired teacher, gave a very interesting talk on his recent experience as a member of a team carrying out voluntary work at the Nyumbani Children’s Home in Nairobi.
The Nyumbani Home was set up in 1992 to look after children who were HIV positive and who had no one else to look after them.
Hyumbani means “home” in the local language. The original Home has accommodation for 140 young people from birth to 18 years old and now provides support as they move into employment, college or university.
David showed a variety of interesting photographs which gave an insight into all the important work being carried out at Hyumbani.
Questions were asked and Irene Squires proposed the vote of thanks.
