A Mearns Youth Football Team has undertaken a physical challenge to raise funds for charity in honour of a coach that has been suffering an illness.
A team made up of 20 parents and coaches have been walking, running or cycling 5k each day in May with funds to be split between Macmillan Cancer Support and the SYFC 2007 team fund.
The idea came about after one of the coaches, Steve, was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Macmillan have provided great support to Steve and his family.
The youth team’s manager Laura Lambert, who also undertook the challenge, said: “I got up at 0515 and out the door for 0530 with my dog, Buster.
“Lots of others are walking or cycling it. As everyone put in so much effort, it gave everyone that took part motivation.”
To mark the end of the challenge, a barbecue was held on Sunday, May 29 as well as a 5k walk and so far £3,025 has been raised.
Thanks go to Stonehaven Round Table who provided a BBQ, candyfloss and popcorn as well as a donation.
