a STONEHAVEN woman is heading to a European conference as part of her continuing battle to raise awareness of the problems which survivors of the disease polio can experience later in life.
Jenny Jones suffers from Post Polio Syndrome (PPS), a condition which she contracted as a result of having polio when she was 4 years old.
Mrs Jones, now 61, has suffered from PPS for more than 25 years, and is the chairwoman of the Aberdeenshire branch of the British Polio fellowship.
The European Polio Union is holding a conference in Denmark from August 31 until September 2.
Jenny will be attending the conference in the hope that it will be of benefit to her members, she also hopes the conference will highlight the need for support for people affected by the disease.
Symptoms of PPS can include acute or increased muscular weakness, pain and fatigue and can substantially effect sufferers day-to-day lives.
