Table fears for future

Stonehaven and District Round Table is in desperate need of new members to ensure that their popular community events can go ahead later this year.

The Stonehaven Round Table was established in 1967, and for over 45 years has had a positive impact on the community. Various events have been established over the years and the Table supports other community groups such as the Lions’ Feein Market and the MRI Festival. Round Table’s own biggest event is the Bonfire and Fireworks display.

The support and generosity of the community has enabled the Table to donate a substantial amount back to the community over the years.

Twenty years ago Table membership was in excess of 40 and the town was less than half the size it is now, yet in 2012 membership has fallen to a mere six full-time active members and in the past few years they have relied heavily on family and friends to maintain the community events.

The Harbour Hi-jinks have been cancelled this year due to a lack of manpower and other popular events such as the bonfire and Santa’s sleigh are also in jeopardy. If you are able to contribute a few hours a year to help at any community events the Round Table would love to hear from you. E-mail
