The Mills of the Luther Water talk to Society

At their first meeting of the new season, Stonehaven Heritage Society members enjoyed an excellent talk from Ian Bell of Laurencekirk who spoke on the Mills of the Luther Water.

Since retiring to Laurencekirk, Ian has spent a good bit of time researching the local history and walking the entire length of the Luther Water which rises in Drumtochty Glen and passes via Auchenblae, Laurencekirk and Luthermuir before joining the Rover North Esk.

Along its way, there were several mills built to use the water flow for various purposes.

Members agreed that it was a fascinating and interesting talk, looking at an area of our county history which is little known.

Ian was thanked by Society chairman Douglas Cusine.

The Society’s next meeting is on Wednesday, October 24 at 7.30pm in St Bridget’s Hall when the speaker will be Vicky Anderson from the RSPB, who will speak on the Fowlsheugh Reserve at Crawton, south of Stonehaven.
