A Touch of Tartan charity event will take place this Saturday, November 30 (St Andrew’s day), at Gourdon Village Hall.

Guests are invited to wear an item of tartan, to celebrate Scottish culture and heritage.

The evening meal and concert is part of a wider fund raising programme to raise funds to purchase the brown tourist signs for the Maggie Law Maritime Museum in Gourdon, supported by Visit Scotland.

Local businesses have generously sponsored this event, with the shortbread being sponsored by a world brand name.

A grand charity auction will provide an opportunity for guests to bid for a range of unusual and valuable items to help boost funds

The guest speaker for the St Andrew’s address will be Alex Johnstone MSP who is much sought after as an after diner speaker.

Douglas Welsh, president of the Maggie Law Museum Committee, will provide a tribute to the late Roy Souter of Gourdon.

Roy was one of a key group of people who were instrumental in opening the museum in 1997, and through his research and writing, has left an amazing record of the rich maritime history of Gourdon and the Kincardineshire Coast.

Dave Ramsay, project director for the museum, said “This will a great evening to help the community celebrate an excellent first year for the refurbished museum, with over 1,000 visitors to date, and substantial donations from the public to assist our work.

‘‘The hugely supportive initial funding from Aberdeenshire Council, has allowed us to re – establish the museum as a three star Visit Scotland visitor attraction, and roadside signs should help boost our visitor numbers for next year.”

A top table of invited guests and sponsors, along with a capacity audience of 100 people, can look forward to a great evening of Scottish food and entertainment.

David Doig, distillery manager of Fettercairn Distillery, will provide guests with an insight into the history of the whisky industry , and a whisky tasting session from the finest products of this world famous distillery in the Mearns.
