Tourism in City and Shire under strategic review

The Aberdeen City and Shire Area Tourism Partnership (ATP) has appointed Destination Consultancy, Blue Sail, as part of a strategic review.

The review of tourism in Aberdeen City & Shire will evaluate the current regional tourism structures to give a clear strategic direction for the future, as well as identifying a sustainable funding model(s).

The operating environment and support for tourism in the city and shire is a complex make-up, consisting of a number of statutory and non-statutory organisations involved in product development, skills development, industry engagement and marketing.

The long term sustainability of the existing regional tourism structure will be reviewed, as well as assessing the opportunities for growing the visitor economy and considering what organisations and structures will best realise these.

Ensuring that Aberdeen City and Shire is a sustainable destination of choice is a key priority of the partnership. As tourism in the area continues to grow, 2015 is set to be an exciting year for the industry in the North-east, including a number of key events.

ACSEF Board Champion for Tourism, Claire Bruce, said: “This year we are delighted to host the prestigious Routes Europe Conference for the first time, welcoming representatives from over 100 airlines and 300 airports.

“We are also pleased to see the arrival of Offshore Europe in September, returning to Aberdeen for the 21st time, bringing thousands of people to the area and generating millions for the local economy.

“In addition we are continuing to showcase the area’s fantastic food & drink industry with a number of events as part of the celebration of Scotland’s Year of Food & Drink.”

Blue Sail is expected to product their final report and recommendations in June 2015.
