Town Hall Talk

Welcome to the first Stonehaven Town Hall Talk. This regular column is designed to keep the community up to date on what is happening with their Town Hall.

We are very grateful to the Community services, who assisted us to clear out the under stage area, removing all the unwanted items and rubbish to the recycling centre at Redcloak. We are now ready to erect shelving in this area to keep the area tidy and workable.

The Town Hall Trust has been granted charitable status by O.S.C.R (Charity No. SCO41958) this will now enable us to start applying for some of the many grants to help them get started on some of the work needed to be done.

Aberdeenshire Council have given us a user agreement which will allow us to start doing remedial work, such as painting certain areas, which should improve the appearance of the entrance etc. It is with thanks to the generosity of Crown Paints, who have donated tins of paint, that we will soon be in a position to start this work. This user agreement will allow the Trust to continue with such work until such time as your Town Hall is handed over to the community.

We have submitted a grant application to the Lotteries People’s Millions and if successful in getting through to the next round we will need the support of the whole community. It is the votes of the TV viewers who vote for their favourite project which decide the winning bids.

We are in the process of setting up a donations page through Just Giving, the charity donations people, which will allow people to make donations towards the refurbishment of our Town Hall online by credit/debit card. This will allow donors to use the gift aid process which increases any donation by 22%. Within some of the Stonehaven shops you will find collecting tins, please feel free to put any donations towards the fundraising for the Town Hall in them. The more money we can collect, the more work we can do.

We are looking for people with experience in lots of different areas to help and advise us on matters relating to the refurbishment of your town hall. If you can help in any way, please contact any of the Trustees. Your help would invaluable.

The next meeting of the Town Hall Trust will be on Thursday February 24 in the Council Chamber within the Town Hall, starting at 7pm.

If you would like to join the Town Hall Trust, please visit our website and complete the form on the contacts page.
