An orphanage in Rwanda is all set to benefit from the generosity of a Fettercairn hotel manager’s fundraising and volunteering efforts.

Vhari Campbell, who works full-time and is mum to two teenagers, has dedicated every moment of her spare time to riaing funds for the orphanage, after a “life-changing” trip to Rwanda last year.

She said: “My own children are in their teens and didn’t need so much of my time anymore and I had always wanted to go and do volunteer work abroad.

‘‘I had only intended to go and work at the orphanage for a month last year as a one-off, but it was such a life- changing experience that I have already made plans to go back there in October for a month.

‘‘I intend to do it every year, and eventually can even see myself living there.

‘‘There is just so much work to be done.”

Following on from a successful fundraising two-day cycle challenge last year, at which she raised £6500 for the orphanage, Vhari has been in training for a triathlon which she will be doing on August 31 to raise more funds.

The gruelling challenge will begin with a mile and a half swim (92 lengths) at Stonehaven swimming pool, followed by a 15 mile cycle along the back roads to Laurencekirk, and then finally a seven-mile run to Fettercairn.

She has raised £4500 so far. To sponsor Vahri you can pick up a form from the Redhall Arms in Fettercairn where she works, or at Mearns Hardware or Michies Chemist in Laurencekirk.
