A gala in the Mearns area is promising to be its biggest yet, but are looking for volunteers to assist in delivering on that promise.
The Portlethen Gala is set to take place on Saturday, August 13 from 12 - 5pm, but is in need of helpers to make sure the day is a success.
The gala’s committee say that “all we need is for people to give us one to two hours of their time” to assist in the running of stalls, serve drinks, collect money and to “generally look cool in a high vis vest”.
Gala secretary Mel Sullivan said: “Our gala is even bigger this year than last.
“And people were saying last year that it was the biggest and best ever.”
Among the additions to this year’s line-up is a curry van and a different funfair has been booked.
The Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee granted the gala £2000 to assist. Initially they applied for £1850 to go towards the cost of storage containers and equipment, but a motion for £2000 by councillor Dave Stewart was seconded and passed.
Cllr Stewart said: “It is run by volunteers and we should show our support.”
Secretary Sullivan said that the “gala team are delighted by the decision”.
Monies raised from the gala are to go to local groups and causes.
Anyone interested in volunteering should send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org and they will be put on the rota.
